The California "Motorized Scooter" Law

Senate Bill 441 (SB-441)

January 1, 2000, it will be legal to drive a Go-Ped® on the streets of California provided that the driver follows the legal requirements as by the state of California.

- Driver must be 16 years or older, a California drivers license and registration will not be required

- Driver MUST wear a helmet.

- Go-Ped® must be driven in the bike lane or on the right side of the street, and not driven on the sidewalks.

- The maximum speed limit for a motorized scooter is 15 mph.

- If a motorized scooter is driven at night, the necessary reflectors and lighting equipment will be a requirement. These items and safety equipment can be purchased at most bicycle shops.

Although, Go-Peds®were not designed for street use, Patmont Motor Werks advises everyone who wishes to use a Go-Ped® on the street to do so with extreme caution, and always use the recommended safety equipment and recommendations clearly stated in the manual.

We advise those drivers of Go-Peds® that in the event of an accident, there may not be coverage under vehicle or homeowners insurance policies. Therefore, should you choose to take advantage of this new freedom, this must be done with a great deal of responsibility on your part.
